Redispersible Polymer Powder (RDP) is a dry polymer additive used in dry mix mortar formulations.
After mixing with water, it redisperse to provide polymer modification within the mortar system.
For formulators, the main value of RDP is its ability to contribute to bonding strength and flexibility,
with some grades also providing waterproofing properties.
RDP is used to improve the bonding performance of dry mix mortar formulations. This makes it
relevant to applications such as tile adhesive, wall putty and EIFS.
The required RDP grade should be selected according to the target application and bonding requirements.
RDP can provide flexibility to cement-based dry mix formulations. This is important when the
formulation requires a balance between bonding strength and flexibility.
However, the final performance depends on the complete formulation rather than RDP alone.

Application requirement → target performance → RDP grade → formulation testing
For example:
-General dry mix mortar requirements: JINT™-503 is a universal-grade RDP with bonding strength and flexibility functions.
-High bonding strength requirement: JINT™-502 or JINT™-740 can be evaluated because both are listed as high-bonding-strength RDP grades.
-Bonding strength + flexibility + waterproofing: JINT™-745 can be evaluated for applications listed on its product page.
The goal is not simply to select the highest-performing product, but to find the grade that matches the requirements of the complete formulation.
Before purchasing a grade for regular production, formulators can compare candidate RDPs under the same formulation conditions.
Keep the cement, fillers, water and other additives constant, then compare:
1.Workability and fresh mortar behavior.
2.Bonding-related performance required for the application.
3.Flexibility or waterproofing performance where relevant.
4.Final performance according to the applicable standard or internal test method.
This side-by-side approach helps determine whether an RDP grade is suitable for the specific formulation.
The benefits of redispersible polymer powder depend on both the RDP grade and the formulation in which it is used.
For construction material manufacturers, the practical approach is to start with the application requirement,
identify the required performance, select a suitable RDP grade, and then confirm the choice through laboratory testing.
